5 Reasons Why These Top 10 World Class cities Are A Must Visit

The subject of picking just ten cities out of the array of top-notch cities across the world I must confess is a timed-explosion bomb. No matter which side of the divide you stand; you’re doomed to offend some people inadvertently.

My list almost without thinking and consultation seems to agree with the monstrous article written by Dave Doran which he captioned Top 10 Must Visit World Class Cities. My drift in this article is to concentrate on the top 5 common denominator of these cities, in other words; what are the most alluring qualities that these wonderful cities have in common that continues to draw travelers and visitors from across the world.

I have an unusual challenge, it stems from the fact that my list of the top 10 cities comes in their order of importance and value to travelers worldwide. Without fear of being contradicted or misunderstood. The city that tops my list are:

NEW YORK CITY- The city with the most giant building in the world, The city that never sleeps, The city of light, the city for shoppers, so good they named it twice.

Paris- The romance and beauty headquarters of the world.

LAS VEGAS- The entertainment and gambling capital of the world.

SYDNEY- The friendliest and most peaceful city for travelers.

SAN FRANCISCO- The most liberal and cozy city for tourists.

BANGKOK- Asia’s gift to the tourist world, most attractive city for tourists.

Tokyo- The city of awe-inspiring scenery, the city of amazing landmarks.

London- The city of the queen. The city for all.


Rome- The city of historic landmarks, the pontifical enclave.

Venice- The city of charm and beauty.


I dare say unequivocally these cosmopolitan cities are a must visit for any international tourist. A visit to any of these marvelous cities with their unforgettable sights and scenery will leave a lasting impression in your life.

Enough of my rambling!

What do these cities have in common? Why do they attract a large chunk of international visitors? In fact; it is on record that millions visit these top 10 cities every year!

They all have these qualities in common!

1. NIGHTLIFE- The activity of people seeking nighttime diversion is increasing worldwide. The entertainment available to people seeking nighttime is very much available in these sprawling cities. You can find grand movie theaters like the magic theater in 254 west 29th street I New York, ny I 10001, Regal Boulder Station 11 Theatre 4111 Boulder Highway Las Vegas, NV 8912. Outstanding restaurants like Vegas Hotel Bar & entertainment in Sydney or pay a visit to the Bei Otto in downtown Bangkok to have a feel of German-European cuisines.

2. ICONIC LANDMARKS- Take a look at Parliament Square, London, Tower Bridge, Southwark, London, the Kew Gardens, Kew, London. Is it the historic landmarks of Venice like Basilica San Marco - San Marco Square, Piazza San Marco St. Mark's Square, Tokyo Tower, Hanazono Jinja Tokyo,

When you visit Rome, there are 8 unforgettable landmark sites you must visit. These are the

Coliseum- it has been estimated that some 500,000 people and over a million animals died inside the Colosseum.

The Pantheon- Oldest standing domed structure in Rome, the Pantheon is the best preserved building from the Roman Empire, and probably the best (of its age) in the whole world, The building is not only famous for its portico (the facade) or the large concrete structure, but mostly for the great round eye in the middle of the roof, also known as the Oculus.

Trevi Fountain- One of the busiest places in Rome, the Trevi Fountain is among the most stunning fountains in the world with a beautiful Baroque architecture.

Spanish Steps- Just a couple of minutes from Piazza del Popolo at the base of La Fontana della Barcaccia in Piazza di Spagna, this is where you’ll find the Spanish Steps. They are the longest and widest staircase in all Europe.

The Vatican- I don’t think the Vatican needs any more presentation, but make sure you visit St Peter’s Basilica, climb up to the top to see the great panorama and visit the Vatican Museum ensure you get up early in the morning so that you miss out on the early morning wonder.

3. Top class hotels & restaurants- You’ll be at home in any of these cities when it comes to accommodation. From one to five star mega hotels and restaurants depending on the size of your check book. Tourists and travelers the world over take particular interest in the caliber of hotels and restaurants they eat and lodge in. You’ll top class services from the equally top hotels and restaurants that abound in these cosmopolitan and metropolitan cities.
4. Top class shopping centres- Shopping is the other name of tourists and travelers the world over, there are equally top-class shopping centres in all of the top 10 cities in my list

5. Hospitality- The reception that you receive when you visit any of these cities is not only top-class, it cannot be compared to none.

Top 10 Must Visit World Cities

Top Ten lists are a dime a dozen on the web and one that crops up more often than most is travel-related lists with outlandish titles such as Top 10 Places You Must See Before You Die and other such morbid titles. This list is similar however we don't see the necessity to insert the Before You Die bit, although it would be useful to visit these cities before you shuffle off this mortal coil.


When it came to choosing the appropriate criteria for selecting these cities, many statistics and facts were taken into account, before being readily dismissed in favour of the most crucial method of consideration of all ... my humble opinion. So forgive me if your own favourite city is not included. I know how you feel as despite my best efforts to sneak one of my own personal favourite cities Dublin into this list logic dictated that a Top 10 list would look a bit weird if it had 11 cities.

Now the next hurdle to overcome was to decide whether to categorise the cities on a graded basis from 10 down to 1 or take the lazy way and just sort them alphabetically, suffice to say, the lazy way was the landslide winner.


Bangkok
Bangkok is a massive sprawling city that offers charms galore. Bangkok is dotted with historical palaces and temples that offer a glimpse into the city's ancient history, yet Bangkok offers much more than beautiful temples and glorious palaces. It comfortably nestles at the forefront of Asia's most visited cities attracting millions of tourists each year. Majestic sites such as The Temple of the Dawn and The Marble Temple should not be missed. Lumphinee Park offers a diversion from Bangkok's bustling city streets. Bangkok is a modern city that encompasses a bustling nightlife, supreme shopping experiences, delicious aromas that fill up the senses from the many gorgeous restaurants and marketplaces. Bangkok's wonderful architecture and soothing climate solidifies its deserved place in this list and indeed why it so frequently crops up on similar lists.


Las Vegas
Well it had to be didn't it? Surely no list of this nature could be complete without Sin City itself, Vegas. Vegas falls into the category of love it or hate it for most people and with visitor numbers increasing each year it seems most people love it. The Entertainment Capital of the World does not disappoint. Where else can you go for a gondola cruise in the morning, see the Grand Canyon in the afternoon and be back in time to see shows such as Siegfried & Roy, Cirque du Soleil and similar headline acts in the afternoon? Ok it's not everyone's cup of tea but it is a city that has to be seen to be believed. Oh, and did I mention you can also gamble there apparently.


London
Ok the weather is not ideal, and the food can be mediocre but no list of this ilk would be complete without including London. It has attractions and sights for people of all ages and is a cosmopolitan city on a grand scale. Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, London Eye, Tower of London is just a few of the majestic attractions in England's capital city. If it's good enough for The Queen well it's good enough for me, just don't forget your brolly.


New York City
So good they named it twice as the saying goes and there few cities in the world that offer the amount of iconic landmarks and attractions that New York can. Even leaving aside world famous attractions and sights such as The Empire State Building, The Statue of Liberty, and Times Square, New York is such a vibrant pulsating city that it has more than enough to tempt visitors going back time after time. It is one of the world's great shopping cities, has a nightlife second to none and has often been referred to as one of the world's great cities. You won't find an argument here.


Paris
I would like to say it was the romantic side in me that welcomes Paris to this list, but it is not, it is because it deservedly nestles here as it as a European heartbeat of culture, beauty and indeed romance and offers some of the most beautiful and majestic sights on the planet. The Eiffel Tower one of the most famous landmarks in the world proudly stands tall in this city that also is graced by Champs Elysees, Notre Dame and The Louvre. The Louvre is home to The Mona Lisa whose ageless beauty bewilders generation after generation. Paris should not be missed.


Rome
This historic city, known as The Eternal City, has some of the most historical sights in the world such as The Pantheon, The Coliseum and The Roman Forum. St Peter's Basilica is just one of the many glorious churches in Rome, and is an essential visit while in the city. Trevi Fountain is yet another treat in this majestic city. And no it wasn't built in a day.


San Francisco
The Bay area of California is home to one of America's most popular destination retreats San Francisco as well as being one of the country's most liberal cities. The hilly streets are as familiar as perhaps the city's most famous landmark, The Golden Gate Bridge. The Bay itself sparkles under the warm sun whilst San Francisco is also renowned for its famous cable cars. The twisty streets in Lombard Street are another essential visit whilst harbor tours often include a trip to Alcatraz, the famous, though now inactive, prison. San Fran is a warm wonderful city with a new treasure each time you come, and no, you don't need to wear flowers in your hair.


Sydney
Beautiful beaches, breathtaking sights and the famous Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge entwined with the beautiful weather and cosmopolitan cuisine make Sydney an unmissable city. The city is a hotbed of activity and one of the friendliest on the planet. Darling Harbour offers enthralling sights and attractions including museums, stunning hotels and shopping whilst The Rocks provides charm in abundance. Sydney Opera House is one of the most recognisable buildings of modern times and is an essential visit. Sydney has it all culture, arts, scenery, climate, and often tops Most liveable city polls. It's not hard to see why.


Tokyo
A metropolis city on a grand scale Tokyo is a vibrant almost futuristic city that engulfs one's senses from the start. Tokyo revels in shrines, museums, temples and the city's Imperial Palace. Sensoji Temple reigns amongst Tokyo's enduring sights along with The Meiji Shrine and The Imperial Palace itself. Museums align the streets competing with restaurants and shops of all descriptions. Those seeking a more modern approach have options like Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Dome City and Tokyo Disneyland. There's truly something for everyone in this great city.


Venice
Many cities claim to be unique, and indeed many are but few can compare to Venice's quirky charm and decidedly unique canals that transcend across the city. Romantic gondola rides alone do not capture the entire beauty of this marvelous city. St Marks Basilica is a glorious church that often has long lines to visit. It nestles in St Marks Square a wonderful open square with charming coffee shops and is a hive of activity as it is one of the most photographed parts of Venice. Doges Palace, The Bridge of Sighs, and The Rialto Bridge are further landmarks of this extraordinary city.

It was destroyed in the 356 BC by Herostratus and again in AD 409 by Goths after Alexander the great rebuilt it. Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus was built in 351 BC by Persians, Greeks. It has various sculpture relief. It was destroyed in an earthquake and by some European Crusaders.

Colossus of Rhodes was built in 292-280 BC by Greeks. It has a giant statue of the Greek god Helios. It was destroyed in an earthquake. Lighthouse of Alexandria was built in 280 BC by Hellenistic Egypt people. It is amongst the tallest structures on earth and was destroyed in an earthquake.

Latest seven wonders of the world were announced on 7th July 2007. In a poll 25 finalist monuments were present and the whole world voted for their best monuments. Out of those seven were chosen.

Seven Wonders of the World are the most precious pieces of architecture present on this planet of life. They are the hub of tourism.

Mount Kumgang, Kumgangsan Tourist Region
Location: North Korea's east coast

Why you should go: It's an unspoiled spiritual retreat. Mount Kumgang and the surrounding area feature exquisite natural beauty, a famous Zen monastery, and challenging trails for hiking enthusiasts. Nearby Kuryong Falls plunges 242 feet before crashing into a series of lagoons below. A pavilion allows easy viewing of the falls, and mountain paths take travelers more than 5,000 feet up for a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and the white-sand beaches of the Korean coastline. Enjoy the latter while you can, as electric and barbed-wire fences make access to these beaches rather difficult.

Why you can't: Because it's almost impossible. Americans can acquire visas for North Korea, but the only access points are through China and South Korea. Tony Poe, a travel agent based in Little Rock, Arkansas, says that although the North Korean regime has begun to allow U.S. tour groups entry, "you're basically under quarantine" the entire time. American tourists (of which there have been fewer than 500 since the Korean War ended in 1953) are generally restricted to Pyongyang and the surrounding areas, with Kumgangsan essentially off limits. Straying too far from the tour group is strictly forbidden, and the nonexistent U.S. Embassy and Consulate aren't going to be of much help if you get into trouble with the Stalinist regime's notorious secret police.

Baracoa
Location: Cuba's eastern tip

Why you should go: Baracoa is Cuba's oldest settlement, founded in 1511 by Spanish conquistadors, and is believed to be near where Christopher Columbus first landed in 1492. So, although the U.S Guantanamo Bay Naval Base is located in the same province as Baracoa, American travelers who run into problems probably won't find much sympathy.

Mogadishu's Beaches
Location: Somalia's east coast

Why you should go: The beaches that separate Mogadishu from the Indian Ocean rank among the most beautiful stretches of sand in the world, say many of the very few Western travelers who ever venture there. Coral reefs teeming with fish are easily accessible from the shore (although tourists pursuing aquatic leisure should leave all valuables at home in case their boat is hijacked by pirates). Back in Mogadishu, visitors can find virtually anything in the city's outdoor markets-except peace of mind. Why you can't: Because a good day in Somalia is the worst day of your life almost anywhere else. Michael Sailor of intrepid travel agency Abercrombie & Kent perhaps puts it best when he says that Somalia is "not exactly a top-of-mind recognition for a travel destination." The U.S. government does not maintain any consular presence in Mogadishu, so an American in trouble is likely to stay there. Most troubling is the fact that with little recognized, governing authority in Somalia, simply identifying which of the seemingly endless string of warlords and criminals has just kidnapped you is an important first step in negotiating your release. Still, the water is lovely.

Mandalay
Location: Burma

Why you should go: Located far from cyclone-damaged coastal areas, Mandalay's impressive central palace, Buddhist pagodas, monastery, and other architectural wonders recall the opulence of 19th-century Burma. Mandalay Hill is home to a number of beautifully constructed religious buildings, as well as spectacular views at sunset and sunrise. Best of all, traveling in Burma is incredibly cheap. Tourists can expect to find luxurious lodging in Mandalay's city center for as little as $40 a night.

Why you can't: See: Xenophobic, repressive military junta. Although there is a U.S. Embassy in Rangoon, Western travelers still face a litany of dangers in Burma. Because the ruling junta has banned gatherings of more than five people and has recently suppressed peaceful demonstrations with bullets and tear gas, the State Department has advised Americans to stay away from anything that looks political. And with the recent cyclone, even aid workers have had trouble getting visas. Until late May-a full three weeks after Nargis struck the coastal regions-foreign aid workers were denied entry. Indeed, for travel agents, "Burma is pretty much off the radar," according to Poe. Also, Mandalay's reputation as the drug trafficking headquarters of Burma might sour some travelers on its charms.

Dress casual and do not behave differently from the people around you. Your camera and backpack may betray your being a tourist. But as long as you are polite and do not stand out through an outrageous behavior, you will not be consider an intruder, and thus will not be treated as such.

7. Defend yourself

Travel light in order to be able to escape or defend yourself if you are the victim of an unfortunate event. Make noise, call for help and be creative in finding means to fight back.

There is nothing more frustrating in the world than not being able to get your hands on your own money. When traveling, the frustration mounts even more because you may have to make expensive international calls to banks at 1am local time to resolve a simple issue. Here are a few tips on how to handle using ATM's in the U.S. or across the ocean.

ATM's are usually the best way to obtain money in any land. ATM's with the Cirrus or Plus logos are universally accepted and finding one in a foreign locations is usually easy, as they are plentiful around the world. ATM's exchange rates are based upon the wholesale exchange rate and that is usually a better rate than local exchanges offer. It's also simple and immediate - no questions asked. But what happens when you can't get the machine to deliver your money? Or your cheap hotel doesn't accept debit cards?

Many people are unaware that due to prevalent fraud in certain countries, ATM debit cards access in certain countries is 'shut off' by certain banks. Currently, countries like Romania, Thailand, Japan, the Philippines, Turkey, certain former Russian and Slavic countries and even in England no longer allow debit card access at ATM's. Though it is not ALL banks in all these countries, it still means you may or may not be able to access your money. And this list is not complete by any means - countries and regions can be added at any time. Some banks will allow signature based transactions but some won't and this of course means you have to go when they are open. Some won't allow PIN based transactions either. Some ATM's also don't recognize more than 4 digits of a PIN.

Here's a couple things you can do however to make sure you don't run out of money when you really have money.

Make sure you only have a 4 digit access code when traveling overseas. You can contact your bank to ask for a PIN re-set and then set it back again when you return. If you have a letter based PIN, convert it to a number based PIN as some ATM's overseas are numerical based, not letter based.

Tell your bank you are going overseas and not to be alarmed if they see transactions suddenly spring up in Europe or Asia and give them the date you are going to return. Banks have been known to deny legitimate charges upon return to the US because the cardholders bank doesn't know they are no longer overseas.

Take a certain amount of cash with you plus traveler's checks and credit cards in addition to your debit card. This way you have a variety of options.

Lastly, take along your bank contact information in casing you need to contact them in an emergency.

These simple steps may avert a disaster during your vacation or trip.
